Who can Apply

Caymanians or those with permanent residency who are currently in the education field or aspiring to enter the education field and are looking to further their own education. 

Minimum Criteria*

    Contribute to and promote excellence in education in the Cayman Islands.

    • Be sustainable and measurable
    • Contribute to increased parental and/or community involvement in education
    • Be affiliated with a reputable educational institution or organization
    • Demonstrate a proven history in successful education projects and/or teaching
    • Contingency for leadership

*Even if the applicant meets all the minimum criteria, the JCA Committee is not bound to grant the award.

Steps for the application process

Step 2
The JCA Committee will carefully review applications against the set criteria.

Step 3
Finalists will be selected and then contacted for a site visit (where applicable) and interview.

Step 4
A recipient(s) will be selected by the JCA Committee and contacted to arrange the scholarship presentation/ceremony and publicity. At this time, a contract will be prepared and signed by the recipient outlining distribution and criteria for use of funds.

Step 5
The JCA Committee will follow up quarterly, or as stated above, to evaluate the success and achievements
of your education.

FAQs

How much is the scholarship?
A minimum of $1,000 KYD will be awarded annually dependant on applicants and funds available for distribution.

When can you apply?

Applications are now being accepted up until April 1, 2011. When applying, please ensure that you include all relevant schooling and/or course information.

How often can you apply?
You may apply once per year and may apply year after year.

When will you know if you have been successful?
We aim to process all applications within one month of the closing date.

What makes for a successful application?

Your application must meet the scholarship criteria* – indicating clearly how your educational pursuit supports the betterment of education in the Cayman Islands will assist in the success of your application. A fully-completed application form supported with relevant information is essential.
*Even if the applicant meets all the minimum criteria, the JCA Committee is not bound to grant the award.


Are there any conditions if you are successful?
Yes.

The following conditions will apply to the successful applicant:

  • Payment may be withheld or reduced if the final costs are less than expected.
  • The applicant will facilitate access to the grades/results by an appointed JCA Committee member at all
    reasonable times and will permit photographs to be taken as a record and used for appropriate publicity.
  • Any publicity conducted by the awardee(s) will be shown in final draft form to the JCA Committee
    before publication and should acknowledge the assistance of DMS in an appropriate way.
  • The JCA Committee will have the right to refer to the scholarship offered in any appropriate publicity.
  • Where applicable, the recipient’s financial accounts showing the scholarship received will be copied to
    the JCA Committee.
  • Payment will not be made for educational pursuits until an invoice has been presented and approved.
