- Contribute to and promote excellence in education in the Cayman Islands
- Be sustainable and measurable
- Contribute to increased parental and/or community involvement in education
- Be affiliated with a reputable educational institution or organization
- Demonstrate a proven history in successful education projects and/or teaching
- Contingency for leadership
*Even if the applicant meets all the minimum criteria, the JCA Committee is not bound to grant the award.

Steps for the application process

Step 2
When you have completed the application form, select "Submit by Email" on the top right hand side of the form. This will auto generate an email with the attached application to the JCA Committee Tara Tvedt-Pearson. *NOTE: If you open the form via the attached email it will display as text code however, the recipient is able to convert the code to your original application form.

Step 3
The JCA Committee will carefully review applications against the set criteria.
Step 4
Finalists will be selected and then contacted for a site visit (where applicable) and interview. A full presentation
will also be required from the applicant at this time.
Step 5
A winner(s) will be selected by the JCA Committee and contacted to arrange the award presentation/ceremony and publicity. At this time, a contract will be prepared and signed by the applicant outlining distribution and criteria for use of funds.
Step 6
The JCA Committee will follow up quarterly, or as stated above, to evaluate the success and achievements of your project.
FAQs
How much can you apply for?
With this award, DMS will donate up to $12,000 KYD annually toward any project(s) in any one financial year.
The budget submitted with your application must account for the full grant amount required but does not
have to equal $12,000 KYD.
If many worthy projects are identified, DMS/Joanna Clarke Award (JCA) Committee will provide grants to multiple organizations not exceeding $12,000 KYD in total across the board. You must also plan to spend all of the funds within 12 months of the notification date, unless otherwise agreed by the JCA Committee.
What won’t the funds pay for?
Applications that include activities or expenses scheduled prior to the award date will not be considered.
Applicants are encouraged to plan ahead.
The funds MUST be used for the specified and approved project. They are not to go into the general “pool”
and not to be used for any other purpose within or outside the organization.
Who can apply?
Anyone representing or involved with a group that contributes to and promotes education in the Cayman
Islands, for example:
A) Teacher(s), or teaching departments
B) Student(s) – clubs or organizations
C) PTA
D) School
When can you apply?
Applications are now being accepted up until April 1, 2011. When applying, please ensure that you have obtained necessary permissions and completed costings for your project. A preliminary discussion with the
JCA Committee can advise on eligibility and assist with the application process.
How often can you apply?
You may apply once per year and may apply year after year.
When will you know if you have been successful?
We aim to process all applications within one month of the closing date.
What makes for a successful application?
Your project must meet the grant criteria* – indicating clearly how your project supports these criteria will
assist in the success of your application.
A fully-completed application form supported with relevant information is essential.
*Even if the applicant meets all the minimum criteria, the JCA Committee is not bound to grant the award.
Are there any conditions if you are successful?
Yes.
The following conditions will apply to the successful applicant:
- Payment may be withheld or reduced if the final costs are less than expected.
- The applicant will facilitate access to the works/project by an appointed JCA Committee member at all
reasonable times and will permit photographs to be taken as a record and used for appropriate publicity.
- Any publicity conducted by the awardee(s) will be shown in final draft form to the JCA Committee
before publication and should acknowledge the assistance of DMS in an appropriate way.
- The JCA Committee will have the right to refer to the grant offered in any appropriate publicity.
- Where applicable, the organization’s financial accounts showing the grant received will be copied to
the JCA Committee.
- Where applicable, future repair and replacement of the works done will be the responsibility of
the awardee(s).
- Payment will not be made for works done until an invoice has been presented and the works
inspected/approved. Invoices for partially-completed projects or stages of a project will be considered
at the discretion of the JCA Committee.
